"The Loving Mother" is a story that reveals the everlasting love of mother to her baby ever after her death.
Shoji Sakota was a pharmacist in Japan. He had neither wife nor any children. He lived in a apartment behind the drug store. One night he was preparing an annual business report staying till late midnight. He heard a knock on the door. He ignored it thinking that one would now that the store was already closed. Again he heard a knock and this time he thought that the gush of wind caused it. However, when he heard the third knock, he reached door and life the shade of window over the door. He saw a woman looking nervous. He did not unlock the door assuming that she would be the part of the trick to rob him. However, he opened it when the lady request that she needed something for her baby. To his surprise, she asked an "AME" on a stick instead of medicine. She paid some cents for it and went out quickly into the stormy night. The next two nights same thing happened. After she came the third night, Sakota called his photographer friend to take the picture. So that he could make her detail study.
On the fourth night, his friend took her several photographs. They developed the film and the pictures showed objects in the store but not the woman. They decided to follow her but she did not seem to mind it. They reached a room of an apartment following her. They saw the same woman sleeping. They assumed that she was just acting. They also saw a small baby licking Ame on the stick happily beside her. When Sakota touched her, he discovered that she had been dead for a number of days.
